Site Leaders' Message

Not many of us are aware of the communities facing rural poverty within the US. The Appalachian region is merely one example of the land of the forgotten. Join us on this immersive experience in Athens County, Ohio where we will be working closely with community partners who will help us gain insight on the intersectionality of rural poverty. We hope that this trip will cultivate active citizens who are able to bring back the skills and knowledge that they have learned about rural poverty to provide sustainable change to their local community well after the alternative break. In Athens County, we will focus on rural poverty and its relation to the youth, BIPOC communities, and healthcare delivery, especially in regards to the opioid crisis and the timely COVID-19 pandemic. Looking forward to this new adventure with you!
