I am a fourth year Geography major with a minor in Public Affairs and Global Studies. I am originally from Sacramento, CA; I have 3 siblings and 4 dogs! This is my second year in AB - I was a participant to the Seattle trip on youthcare and homelessness. After my trip, I was so inspired to continue working with the communities and topics from my site, that I got an internship at a local nonprofit advocating for children’s rights in foster care. My favorite place in the world is on the top of a mountain or at a beach!

I am a third year Economics major from San Francisco. Last year, I was a participant in the North Carolina trip, where I learned about environmental justice. In my free time, I am probably at a coffee shop, or another coffee shop.

I grew up in Corona, California and am now entering my second year studying Bioengineering at UCLA with the hopes of attending medical school in the future. During my first year with Alternative Breaks, I traveled to the amazing city of New Orleans to learn more about Community Rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Because of the great friendships I made while exploring the city and all that I learned about the tragedies that occurred there, I decided this year to plan my very own trip with my co-lead, Sue Han. I am passionate about issues such as disabilities rights, access to healthcare, and mental health. You can find me elsewhere on campus conducting Big Bang Theory Scholar activities, working at Kerckhoff Coffee House, or participating in intramural soccer.

I'm a 3rd year Linguistics & Spanish and Public Affairs major from sunny San Diego. I went on "The Roots of Environmental Justice" trip to Charlotte & Asheville, North Carolina last year and had such an impactful experience that I had to come back and share it with y'all through our very own trip! I want to learn more about the criminal justice system and how it systematically excludes low-income communities and communities of color. My passions (outside of planning our AB trip, of course) include collecting national parks passport stamps, feeding my friends, and EDM music <3 I can't wait to meet you all!!

I'm a 4th year Psychology major studying for a double minor in Film Studies and Asian American Studies. A native of the Eagle Rock, Pasadena, and Long Beach areas, I enjoy eating new food, exploring vintage stores, and spending quality time with family and friends. This past year, I attended the AB New Orleans trip pertaining to Community Rebuilding. I am stoked to be a site leader this year with my amazing co, Brandon! I promise you'll have an educational, heart-warming, and unforgettable time with your new AB fam. :)

I am a third year Cognitive Science major from San Diego. I love sunset swims, hiking, watching Love Island, eating gelato, and listening to Frank Ocean. Last spring I was a participant in the North Carolina trip exploring the intersectionality of environmental justice and after belting Country Roads Take Me Home in the Blue Ridge Mountains, I was hooked onto AB. This year I’m so excited to lead a trip with my legendary co, Yushi to further explore our passion for the environment.

I am a 4th year psychobiology major with a disability studies minor. In my free time, I love to bullet journal, grab a good cup of boba (7 Leaves), play with my super cute dog, Cooky, and binge watch on Netflix. Last year, I participated in a site to Athens, Ohio, focusing on rural poverty. This year, I'm super excited to lead a site with my co, Quynh! :’) Fun Fact: I know all the words to Bodak Yellow by heart.

Despite almost being attacked by a beaver on last year's site "Climate Change not System Change: Environmental Justice in North Carolina," I am ecstatic to be coming back to AB to lead another trip! I fell in love with AB's pillars of education, service, and reflection on my first AB shower-less trip to Joshua Tree National Park focused on environmental conservation. As a third year Geography/Environmental studies major from Huntington Beach, I love bathymetric maps, my rabbit Fozzy, UCLA's botanical gardens, and feeding my newfound coffee dependency.

I am a 4th year Biology Major/Science Education Minor from Rowland Heights, California. I first got involved with AB on my service trip focused on youth development and education in Oakland, California over this past Spring Break and am looking forward to leading a site of my own this upcoming year. In my free time, I like to volunteer with children, visit National Parks, and search for new foods to try/music to listen to. I am passionate about topics including mental health, homelessness, and education.

I am a third-year Economics major with a Global Studies minor who went on an AB trip exploring rural poverty in Athens, Ohio last year, where I gained many meaningful lessons and even more amazing friends. This year, I can't wait to give that same wonderful experience to participants with my beautiful co, Ashley B! Besides AB, I also love playing water sports, trying new cafes, working with nonprofits and stuffing my face with cheesecake.

Hello! I am a 3rd year Psychobiology major with a Film minor. I was a part of AB as a two timer participant in a trip to Fresno to explore food insecurity and immigration and another trip to Coachella Valley to explore animal and disabilities rights. I love to travel, hike, watch movies, and make art! I have an amazing CO (Cindy!!) and we are very excited to meet you all! We want to explore many aspects of mental health all within one short week during winter break, so it should be a very fun, exhausting, but rewarding trip!

They/Them/Theirs

Joanna is a sophomore in Materials Science and Engineering aiming to dedicate their career to furthering sustainability. Spurred by this passion and the raging wildfires near their hometown in Thousand Oaks, they participated in an AB trip to New Orleans on Community Rebuilding After a Natural Disaster and a conference in Grand Rapids on Collaborative Approaches to Greening a Growing City. This year, they hope to provide other students an equally meaningful, fun, and educational experience with their amazing co-lead, Sarah Payne! Outside of AB, Joanna is involved with Renewable Energy Association, SAMPE, club tennis, Game Music Ensemble, and other (too many) extracurriculars. They enjoy binge-watching YouTube videos and making art in their spare time.
